Games at the Onion A.V. Club.

The Onion A.V. Club launches its new videogame section with a pair of interviews, one with superstar designer (or as close as we get in this industry) Will Wright and the other with Howard Scott Warshaw, developer of Atari 2600 games both great (Yar’s Revenge) and not-so-great (E.T.). Wright is his usual interesting self, but Dr. B points out that his remarks about flexibility in sexuality don’t necessarily come without their own cultural assumptions.

Me, I’m just always excited to see videogames covered alongside a broad range of media, beyond the confines of the enthusiast press. Gamers like to complain about how no one takes them seriously, and the best way to reach mainstream legitimacy — to make the shift from “hobby” to “media” — is to see more mainstream coverage of games. Well, either that or faux-Oscar awards ceremonies, take your pick.

so long as it's better than the av club's hideous (and, thankfully, short-lived) "say something funny", an opportunity nearly every comedian failed to leverage, i'll take it.

Wait, do you mean that people take the real Oscars seriously?
