2012 kind of went out with a whimper — I have realized that December and I just don’t get along very well — but I think that on the whole, it was a good year. It was definitely a year of change, with the shift away from full-time day jobs and towards establishing Floor Is Lava. Change is good!

I’m not sure how successful I ultimately was at taking care of myself in 2012, but it’s a vague enough goal that I can claim some success: I took a real vacation, quit my job, and even exercised a bit. I don’t know if I’m exactly living my best life yet, but I think I’m making steps in the right direction.

Anyway, here are some things I’d like to do in 2013:

Broaden my base: The whole point of Floor Is Lava is to give me a chance to make a lot of different kinds of games. Flaar and Lexicon are a good start, but I also want to broaden the range of client work I do.

Be ambitious: Flaar is great, and I want to keep adding to it, but it’s intentionally been kept very simple and narrowly-scoped. I like making small things, but I should resist the lure of tiny, easy projects and push myself to do something more full-featured.

Keep running: I really don’t like jogging very much, as it combines two of my least favorite things: sweating and moving quickly. However, I do like the part where I feel like something other than a miserable slob afterwards. So I’m going to keep giving myself dumb little motivations to stick with it, like making a new year’s resolution around it.

Get a haircut: It’s getting shaggy again, and I have no desire to bring back the accidental pony tail.

Post or die: Semifat Sediment turns 10 years old this year. I’m either going to start posting again on a regular basis, or just put this thing out to pasture.
