Last Friday was my last day at Sifteo. As exciting as working on the cubes has been, two years was starting to feel like long enough to work on one thing — if shipping a new platform plus twenty games can really be called “one thing.” So it’s time for me to go back to freelancing, to branch out and see if I can remember how to design games for things other than handfuls of little blocks. Of course, as I say that, my current project is still with Sifteo, finishing up some outstanding projects. But soon! Other things! It’s going to be great.
My other first project has turned out to be slightly bigger than I thought. It used to be that when you changed jobs, you made a few calls and printed some new business cards, and that was that. Now, you have to make a few calls, print new business cards, update all your online profiles, make a few new web sites, and probably a bunch of other stuff that I’ve forgotten to do — like updating the blog.
So here’s my new site for business-y stuff: Floor Is Lava. The name “Floor is Lava” reflects a kind of spontaneous, loose play that I think we could use more of, but really I was just looking for something I could make a goofy URL out of.
And while I was at it, I blew away the design for this site as well. Change!
