I think they intentionally build airports to be energy-sapping, soul-deadening centers of frustration. If you’re kept busy being annoyed by the draconian security measures and irritated by the lines and the waiting, you don’t have time to be sad about little things like, say, finally saying goodbye to the place you spent a third of your life living in. All you feel is a dull hope that in a few hours, you’ll be able to avoid an airport for at least a few weeks.
