After thirteen winters in Minnesota, I’ve turned into one of those grouchy types who’s sick of the cold, aches all over when the mercury drops, and bitches mightily every time he has to hike uphill through drifts of snow just to get a burrito. Unfortunately, I’ve also turned into one of those grouchy types that complains about how back in my day, the winters were really cold, and I almost got gangrene every time I walked out of the house, and Arne told the whole state to stay indoors, and we had to hike uphill through drifts of snow just to get a burrito — but it was too cold to enjoy them! (Or something like that.)

At any rate, I’m not sure what to make of the absurdly mild winter we’re having in Minnesota (and in much of the rest of the country). On the one hand, I’m relieved to not be freezing my buns off; on the other, it’s just too weird to be walking around Uptown in January in 40-degree weather.

So to relieve some of the cognitive dissonance, I reworked this site’s color palette and added a chillier banner. Now I can stare at my web page and convince myself that I’m living in a winter wonderland! And then complain about the cold.
