If my previous posting on Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter sounds like total gibberish, it’s because I finally just gave up trying to explain what I was thinking about the game and just posted whatever random junk I had; that adds up to a big C- for me!

I often wonder how I managed to spend four years at some high-falutin’ college and somehow emerge with absolutely no understanding of how to analyze a text in a coherent manner. A coffee-klatsch understanding of things like Russian formalism or reader-response criticism is just not enough for a person to express the interplay of narrative and ludic elements in video games, and I should really just stop pretending that it is. Anyone know if there’s a night course in literary theory that I could take? Maybe I should just fall back on the IGN Method of evaluating games and give everything a semi-random numeric score that drains all thought out of the process.
