A friend of mine has season tickets to Lynx games this summer, and brought me along to see them play the L.A. Sparks tonight. It was close all night, but the Lynx ended up losing 83-80. The Sparks beat them up in the paint, but it’s hard not to look bad when you have to guard Lisa Leslie. Also, it’s a bad sign for your team when your opponent doesn’t miss any free throws (well, there was the one that they missed and retook when the refs called a bogus lane violation, but that one doesn’t show up in the box score).

On the plus side, Svetlana Abrosimova is a stud. I don’t know if it’s ok to refer to WNBA players as “studs”, but when you’re battling for rebounds and leading the fast break like that, “stud” is the word that comes to my mind.

Veteran rookie Teresa Edwards looked good, but interestingly, it was backup point guard Kristi Harrower running the show for much of the game, garnering six assists. Best moment of the night: seeing 5’4″ Harrower switch off of a screen and box out 6’5″ Leslie.

Anyway, a good time all around. The Lynx are looking like a team to keep an eye on this year.
